WHO'S IN CHARGE HERE?
Magpie is a former journalist, attempted historian [No, you can't ask how her thesis is going], and full-time corvid of the lesbian persuasion. She keeps herself in birdseed by writing those bad computer manuals that you toss out without bothering to read them. She also blogs too much when she's not on deadline, both here and at Pacific Views.

Magpie roosts in Portland, Oregon, where she annoys her housemates (as well as her cats Medea, Whiskers, and Jane Doe) by attempting to play Irish music on the fiddle and concertina.

'Where are all the women bloggers' redux.

Every few months, some big-time male blogger wonders how come there are hardly any women bloggers. Of course, they've never bothered to go look for any or, if they are a blogger, link to political blogs by women.

The question is currently doing its latest rounds, and we chose to stay out of it this time. But we did notice that Pinko Feminist Hellcat posted on the subject. And she totally nails it.

Okay, fine. We don't know how to compromise on abortion rights because they affect us directly. Heaven forbid. Perhaps we should exhort you all to compromise on voting rights? Miranda? Due process? The right to privacy? Gender politics is only secondary to overly-entitled men, not women who have to deal with this BS every day or the men who have half a clue like PZ Meyers, Ampersand, Prometheus 6, the Heretik, or Tas. Just to name a few.

I've been posting on the bankruptcy bill, Social Security, corporate corruption, economic issues, and Iraq. Plenty of women bloggers write about these things. I've also posted on abortion (being a naughty woman who won't compromise on that because it's been compromised enough, thankyouverymuch), violence against women (it's a real issue to 51% of the population), homophobia, racism, misogyny, and the spinlessness of many so-called liberals and progressives who'd like us to roll over and play dead for the GOP so we can vote for yet another white guy who's not a liberal but plays one on TV.

Have I mentioned that I'm sick to death of this?

We do write commentary and come up with new ideas. Actually, most women's blogs are far more original and insightful than the moldy big dog blogs out there. Not my problem if you don't bother to look or read, but don't snivel about the supposed dearth of women bloggers. Your lack of observation does not mean that I don't exist. It does not mean that the bloggers on my blogroll--all of whom can write circles around you all--don't exist.

We love it when someone says things far better than we would have.

No, we haven't forgotten about Magpie.

But the news has been so unremittingly awful for the last few weeks that we've been rendered speechless. Online, anyway.

If anyone wants to give us a pep talk or try to cheer us up, please do. We'd love to be able to get up the oomph to start posting again.
