WHO'S IN CHARGE HERE?
Magpie is a former journalist, attempted historian [No, you can't ask how her thesis is going], and full-time corvid of the lesbian persuasion. She keeps herself in birdseed by writing those bad computer manuals that you toss out without bothering to read them. She also blogs too much when she's not on deadline, both here and at Pacific Views.
Magpie roosts in Portland, Oregon, where she annoys her housemates (as well as her cats Medea, Whiskers, and Jane Doe) by attempting to play Irish music on the fiddle and concertina.
No, I'm not a particularly pessimistic magpie today. What I'm thinking about is how the government likes to release bad news at 5 pm on Friday, so that it misses the Friday evening newscasts and gets buried on the weekend news when, of course, no one is paying attention. Dubya's administration has used this Friday news 'black hole' to hide bad news, bungling, and scary stuff more than any other administration in recent memory.
Given that we in the US are about to start the long Thanksgiving weekend, I just have to wonder what nasty news Dubya's minions are going to drop on us later today, hoping that we aren't paying attention. Since most of the country is going to be distracted by turkey, football, and shopping, I bet it's going to be a doozy. |
